car keeps stalling when i put it in gear 1968 gtx When I put my 67 in gear the motor cuts off. I have a 350 that is not the original motor with a turbo 350 transmission. I have had the car for two years now and the motor has always ran a bit rough. Recently it started to stall when I would come to a stop and now I can't even put it in gear without stalling. I figure this is simple, but there is a lot going on right now, so I thought I'd ask "the Brain Trust". I have a fresh rebuilt SBC with TH350, Rochester 4V carb, HEI Ignition. Idles fine and runs up nice, but when I put it in gear, it wants to stall out. If I give it gas ... No jump in short FT when putting into gear, just an instant drop in rpm/vacuum as the engine dies. Coil is MSD 8202 w/8.5mm MSD spark plug wires. Very tight torque converter (RV) so dialed vacuum advance back to 0 in initial tune. Just can’t seem to get the engine to stay running when shifting the automatic transmission into gear. Another way is to put a voltmeter on the battery terminal lugs and measure the battery voltage while you start the car. It should not drop below 10 volts. Interestingly, older Zs used to have voltmeters as part of the instrument cluster, so it was easy to keep an eye on this sort of thing. If the cable is too loose the clutch is not opening all the way when you pull the handle and putting it in gear is like dumping the clutch and stalling out.
